Journey to Love-Kindness

The loving kindness technique was different at first and took me a minute to actually get into it. It did help me to think about someone I love. My thoughts started to slow down and I felt a since of peace. I think this technique would be good for everyone to at least try it once.

The concept of mental workout implies exercising the mind or working the mind to be healthy. Mental workouts means to utilize contemplative practices to help calm the minds constant mental activities and train it to along with opening one's heart, expanding consciousness, and progressing towards psychospiritual flourishing, Through the contemplative practice of loving-kindness an individual will be able to open their hearts to others and slowly reduce their selfishness. So then they can grow towards the development of psychospiritual flourishing. Research indicates the proven benefits of mental workout results in awareness and experiences of the mind and its many levels and capacities in healing and the development of the qualities of human flourishing which are health, happiness, and wholeness. For me to implement mental workouts I would have to devote an hour a day towards incorporating he contemplative practices of loving-kindness. This would benefit me because I have a hard time letting people get close. By doing this I would feel calm and at peace with myself and would be able to benefit from happiness, good health, and wholeness.

  1. Kisha,
Great blog! I agree with you about the Loving-Kindness exercise. It took me a while to get into it but once I did it helped me to relax and feel at peace. I think everyone should try this at least once as well, you never know what might help you to relax or to help you feel better about yourself. I like your comment about loving-kindness helping individuals to open their hearts and reduce their selfishness. I think that in order to have complete psychospiritual flourishing that we need to be able to put all selfishness aside and to open our hearts to others. Positive actions and words can move us toward health, happiness, and wholeness.

  2. There is something to be said about calming the mind and allowing yourself to concentrate on something or someone other than self. It was interesting at first that I could still here noise outside my house, but once I concentrated on the peacefulness of the recording, the noise quietly left. Thinking on my sister brought about a feeling of tremendous love.

I hope you continue to practice this kind of exercise and that it brings you an openness to others.

  3. Kisha,

Really great blog! This exercise was extremely calming and allowed me to kind of go outside the stress of the moment for a little while. I think it is so important to take ourselves out of the equation and focus outside of the box to get away from the selfishness as you said. I firmly believe that thinking of others helps us to grow ten-fold emotionally and spiritually! Have a great week!

  4. Great blog. I really struggled with concentration throughout the entire exercise this week. I felt it was really long and while I started out strong, my mind started worrying about things like homework, housework, and work-work and I kept having to re-train my thoughts back to focusing on the present moment. I think that is a pretty big indicator that I need to do these exercises more often.

  5. Great blog. For the life of me I cannot concentrate on not concentrating! :/ I think that I would have to be hypnotized to be able to meditate effectively. Do you have any pointers on teaching someone how to meditate.
